She is one of the 100 BBC Women 2021 and the Member of the Council on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), Ministry of Human Rights. In the struggle of giving voice to women with disabilities, she has been lobbying with parliamentarians, UN high level representatives focusing on developing advocacy strategies to raise awareness, network, and build capacity and at the UN level in relation to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Inclusive Development. She Sit-In and instrumental in the development and implementation of other legislation, such as the Disability Rights Act 2020 and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. She is known as one of most active women with disabilities leader globally. She also coordinates efforts of including persons with disabilities in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its sustainable development goals. In particular, she established National Forum of Women with Disabilities, Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP), Ageing and Disability Task Force (ADTF), and has been recently assigned the responsibility as Chair, Asia Pacific Women with Disabilities Network. She is the Co-Coordinator, Asia Pacific Women with Disabilities United and Coordinator, South Asia Disability and Development Initiative (SADDI) Project, Executive Board Member, Commonwealth Disability Forum. Abia is also a Board Member of Asia Pacific Women Law & Development (APWLD) worked in more than 30+ countries in all over the world.She is serving as Trustee, Sightsavers Global Board since 2018. With the support of US Embassy Pakistan Abia has organised and lead three Exchange Programs and took 56 Persons with disabilities, parliamentarians, representatives of Government in the delegation. Abia played a key role in lobbying with policymakers, DPOs and like-minded groups to create demand for the law to protect their rights. He guided process of drafting The ICT Rights of Persons with Disability Act 2020. Abia’s’ significant contribution for Pakistan’s first-ever legislation to protect the rights of persons with disabilities has been acknowledged by the Government of Pakistan. Abia has improved accessibility, conducted trainings and created opportunities for the millions of people around the world with disabilities. The case was decided in my client favour and direction was issued to KP Government to appoint Ombudsman within a span of two months. The private Hospitals and Laboratories rates for medical tests and treatment were regulated and decreased to make it affordable for the public. With more than 15 years of experience across academia, research, entrepreneurship, and industry, Dr. Latif has established herself as a leading voice in Artificial Intelligence, Explainable AI, Large Language Models, and AI for social and financial inclusion. Her research portfolio includes more than 70 publications in high-impact journals and conferences, spanning efficient Retrieval-Augmented Generation, AI for mathematics, NLP for under-resourced languages, and trustworthy AI systems designed for real-world impact. Dr. Latif’s work sits at the intersection of advanced AI research, financial technology, gender equity, and public-sector innovation. As an entrepreneur, she founded Aawaz AI, an AI-based startup focused on RegTech and FinTech solutions that support women-led small businesses through AI-driven credit assessment and compliance technologies. Along with her team, she developed an AI-based credit scoring model for female entrepreneurs in Pakistan, funded by the Asian Development Bank Singapore and Women’s Finance Exchange Manila. The model was successfully piloted with a bank in Pakistan, resulting in the disbursement of more than PKR 100 million in loans, demonstrating the power of responsible AI to expand women’s access to finance. Her expertise has also informed major international development initiatives. As a consultant to the Asian Development Bank, she contributed to the design of gender-sensitive AI-driven financial platforms to improve credit access for women entrepreneurs across the MENAP region. More recently, she was invited to consult on the UNDP-PLEDGE project on a Gender Responsive Legislative Agenda, and provided consultation to UNDP-PLEDGE on enhancing Artificial Intelligence inclusion in digital governance and strengthening academic and technical support to provincial assemblies. Recognized globally for her thought leadership, Dr. Latif has delivered keynote talks and participated in high-level forums around the world. At the United Nations General Assembly Science Summit, UNGA78, she spoke on “FinTech’s New Frontier: Erasing Gender Lines with Generative AI.” She also delivered a keynote address to young leaders from around the world on “AI as a Catalyst for Young Leaders” at the AI for Global Leaders Conference in Malaysia.
