The Punjab Assembly marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month through a special awareness gathering organized under the leadership of the Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC), reaffirming its commitment to promoting breast cancer awareness, early detection, and timely screening among women.
The gathering was held at the entrance of the New Assembly Building at 2:00 PM and was led by Ms. Ishrat Ashraf, MPA, Convener of the Women Parliamentary Caucus, alongside Ms. Zakia Shahnawaz and Ms. Mehwish Sultan, General Secretary of the WPC. As part of the initiative, a pink ribbon was displayed to symbolize hope, courage, and solidarity with those affected by breast cancer. The gathering provided an opportunity to honour breast cancer survivors, remember those who lost their lives to the disease, and highlight the importance of awareness, early diagnosis, and access to appropriate healthcare.
Dr. Omer Ayub, a qualified medical specialist also delivered an awareness briefing on breast cancer, emphasizing the significance of recognizing potential warning signs, seeking timely medical advice, and undergoing appropriate screening. The session underscored that early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes and save lives.
Members were encouraged to wear pink as a gesture of support for breast cancer awareness and to help spread the message that timely diagnosis and access to healthcare are essential in the fight against the disease.
Through this initiative, the Punjab Assembly and the Women Parliamentary Caucus reiterated their commitment to raising public awareness, encouraging preventive healthcare practices, and supporting efforts to reduce the impact of breast cancer on women, families, and communities.
