WPC KP Holds Introductory General Body Meeting to Strengthen Women’s Legislative Role
Peshawar 11 May 2026: The introductory General Body meeting of the Women Parliamentary Caucus of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was held at the Conference Room of the Provincial Assembly under the chairpersonship of Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Women Parliamentary Caucus, Mrs. Suraya Bibi.
The meeting was attended by women members of the caucus including Ms. Sobia Shahid, Ms. Rehana Ismail, Ms. Nilofer Babar, Ms. Aiman Jalil, Ms. Ashber Jadoon, Ms. Mehr Sultana, Ms. Shazia Tahmas, Ms. Afshan Hussain, Ms. Naheeda Noor, Ms. Arifa Bibi, Ms. Madina Gul, and Ms. Faiza Malik. Secretary Provincial Assembly Syed Waqar Shah, Women Caucus staff, and officers from relevant departments of the Assembly also participated in the meeting.
At the outset, Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi welcomed all women members and congratulated them on becoming part of the Women Parliamentary Caucus. She stated that the caucus serves as an effective platform for women legislators to collectively address issues faced by women, safeguard their rights, and contribute towards impactful legislation for their welfare and empowerment.
On the occasion, Secretary Assembly Syed Waqar Shah briefed the participants and shared that, in line with the vision of Speaker Provincial Assembly Babar Saleem Swati, a Directorate of Training has been established to strengthen the capacity of Members of the Assembly and Assembly staff. He informed the participants that modern training facilities have been introduced and future training workshops will now be conducted within the Assembly premises to facilitate members more effectively.
He further stated that a Legislative Drafting Section is also being established within the Law Directorate to assist Members of the Assembly in drafting resolutions, call attention notices, and other parliamentary business.
The meeting was also informed that members of the Women Parliamentary Caucus will soon be sent on study visits to various international parliaments to observe legislative systems and committee procedures, enabling them to utilize these experiences for the welfare and empowerment of women in the province.
Concluding the meeting, Chairperson Women Parliamentary Caucus Suraya Bibi stated that, in the upcoming meeting of the caucus, various committees will be formed through consultation with members to ensure more effective work on women-related issues.
